LTC is looking to hire Spanish and Khmer interpreters to provide coverage of Lowell City Council meetings. In collaboration with the Working Cities Lowell Initiative, LTC has received a grant from Eastern Bank to produce the Council programs, which will be cablecast on LTC. By offering the City Council meetings in Spanish and Khmer, LTC and the Working Cities Lowell Initiative hope to increase inclusion of non-English speaking residents, many of who are immigrants, in local municipal decision making.

The Interpreters will watch the City Council meetings live, either on cable TV in Lowell or on-line, and simultaneously record their Spanish or Khmer interpretation into an audio recorder. Alternately, since the meetings are available on-line the following day, they could be interpreted from there. The audio recording will be sent to LTC for dubbing onto the English language original program. The dubbed versions will be cablecast on LTC and posted on the LTC website for on-demand viewing. We hope to begin this project in early September. The meetings run approximately 2-3 hours on Tuesdays, beginning at 6:30pm.

Applicants must be experienced, and preferably certified, in simultaneous verbal interpretation. Send a resume and cover letter to wblom@LTC.org. The job descriptions are here: KhmerInterpreterJD      SpanishInterpreterJD
